2 container scanners inaugurated in Ctg port

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 17: The Chittagong Port, the prime seaport of the country, got two fixed container scanners on Saturday.

State minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury formally inaugurated the newly-imported container scanners at the gate number 4 of the port.

Addressing the inaugural function, he said, "At present, the country's businessmen are coming out of thinking of profit on the limited time. So, the trade and business is being pro-people now."

"Once Matarbari becomes a deep-sea port, we will move to a different height in the maritime sector. Mother vessels of 12m draft will arrive in the Bay Terminal," the state minister said.

"Trade and business will increase in future through the Chittagong seaport. So, we need more infrastructures and modern facilities."

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has done Pyra harbor, a deep-sea port in Bangladesh which is very significant for the maritime sector. Now, we are selected as C category in maritime sector. In future, we will increase our position in maritime sector."

Mr Mahmud further said, "Denmark has interested in investing in Pyra Harbor. Saudi Arabia wants to invest more. The investors think investment in Bangladesh is safe as there is political stability in the country now. We've not made an agreement to sell the country with anyone, nor will we do so."

"People's trust in digital system has been established. We'll build a smart and developed Bangladesh in 2041," he added.

The inaugural function was presided over by Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail while Senior Shipping Secretary Md Mustafa Kamal addressed the function as special guest.

Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail said, "Chittagong port is the first class KPI of the country. We are 67th in the world's top 100 ports. The port is moving forward under the direction of the Prime Minister and the leadership of the state minister for shipping. Installing modern scanners for the first time will modernise the port."

Mustafa Kamal said, "Hon'ble Prime Minister directed authorities to install scanners at the port earlier. Following her directives, the scanners are being installed step by step. We want to build a smart Bangladesh. The port is cooperating with the work of the National Board of Revenue (NBR)."
