At least two children died from measles and suspected infections in the past 24 hours, as the situation continues to worsen across the country, health authorities said on Saturday.

With the latest fatalities, the number of confirmed deaths has remained unchanged at 24 since March 15, while suspected deaths have risen to 145 over the same period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) daily bulletin.

Meanwhile, 80 new confirmed measles cases were reported in the last 24 hours, alongside 888 additional cases with measles-like symptoms.

The total number of confirmed cases has climbed to 2,489, while suspected cases have reached 14,385.

A total of 9,463 measles patients have been admitted to hospitals nationwide since March 15, of whom 7,022 have recovered and returned home, the DGHS said.

According to reports from Our Sylhet correspondent, three children have died in the past five days with measles symptoms in the division. All the deceased were under one year old.

A seven-month-old child from Fenchuganj upazila died at around 12:30 pm on Friday while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, according to the Divisional Director (Health) office on Saturday morning.

Earlier, a child named Arisha died on April 8, while a two-month-old infant died on April 6 at the same hospital.

Health officials said one new measles case was detected in Sylhet division in the last 24 hours.

Since January 1, a total of 41 people have been diagnosed with lab-confirmed measles and rubella in the division. Of them, seven cases were reported in Habiganj (including two rubella cases), 13 in Moulvibazar, 11 in Sunamganj and 10 in Sylhet.
