At least two manufacturing factories were sealed while owners of two other units were jailed for three months each for marketing products without BSTI approval and violating its licensing terms and conditions.
A joint drive of the Chittagong district administration and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) local office Thursday took the punitive measures for selling substandard products, risking public health, a BSTI media statement said.
As a part of their regular drive against the dishonest and adulterating factories, the local bodies conducted the drive headed by Chittagong Judicial Magistrate Habibul Hasan in the port city.
The sealed factories are bottled drinking water of brand name Desh, a product of Mssr's Desh Food & Beverage, and Refined Palm Oil, a product of the Mssr's Amanat for its packaging and marketing products with fake BSTI badge.
The joint force jailed owners of Mssr's Shahin Store and Mssr's Index Shop and Chemical Industry for three months, fined Tk 100,000 and Tk 50,000 respectively for selling substandard mustard oil and refined oil violating the licensing conditions.
