20 villages flooded in Cox's Bazar

COX'S BAZAR: May 27: An embankment in the coastal area of the district collapsed under the influence of a tidal surge on Monday, flooding nearly 20 villages and damaging 153 dwelling structures.

An elderly man, Abul Kalam, was injured as a tree branch crashed down on him in Maheshkhali.

Out of 638 shelters prepared in the district, 9,787 residents have taken shelter in 31 centres.

After the signal came down, the sheltered residents went back home.

There was risk of landslides and loss of life as rain continued.
