24-hour ban on mobile transactions

The central bank has imposed a 24-hour ban on mobile transactions to ensure a free and fair city corporation polls, officials said.
"We've imposed such ban on mobile transaction in line with the Election Commission's advice," a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told the FE.
The recharge of mobile phone through flexi load is not part of the mobile financial services, so such recharge will continue, the BB official explained.
The central bank issued a circular in this connection Monday and asked the banks providing mobile financial services (MFS) and its subsidiaries to comply with the directive properly.
"From now on the mobile transaction will remain temporarily suspend until 5:00 pm Tuesday," the BB said in the circular.
Starting 5:00 pm on Monday, all kinds of mobile transactions will remain closed until 5:00 pm on Tuesday (April 28), another BB official explained.
Currently, 19 banks out of 56 are providing mobile banking using mobile phone network across the country.
