3 N\\\'ganj OCs, IO transferred

NARAYANGANJ, May 8 (Agencies): RAB investigations have found evidence of its own officers being involved in the Nayarayanganj murders, several sources inside the elite force say.

It has found no proof that suggests involvement of anyone besides RAB and fugitive Ward-4 Councillor Nur Hossain, according to the sources.

But they believe finding Hossain, the prime accused, will clarify the matter further.

RAB formed its own probe team on May 5 after it was accused of abducting and killing seven people including Councillor Nazrul Hossain and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar.

Their decomposing bodies were found floating on Shitalakhya River at Bandar Upazila on Apr 30, three days after they were all abducted from the city's court premises by men in RAB uniform.

Nazrul Islam's father-in-law Shahidul Islam, after the discovery of the bodies, pointed the finger at RAB-11.

He said it was the law enforcers that took large amount of money from Nur Hossain to kill Nazrul along with his aides.

Meanwhile, RAB-11 Commander Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mahmud, Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MA Rana have been forced to retire.

Meanwhile, in a reshuffle in the district police administration, four officials, including investigation officer of the seven-murder case, have been transferred. Officer-in-charge of district Detective Branch (DB) of police

Mahabubur Rahman and its Inspector Abdul Awal, also the IO of the murder case, have been sent to Barisal Range, said sources at the SP office.

Narsingdi DB Inspector Mamunur Rashid Mondal has been brought in and made investigation officer of the case. OC of Siddhirganj Police Station Abdul Matin has been transferred to Tangail while that of Fatullah Akter Hossain to Munshiganj. OC of Narsingdi Police Station Asaduzzaman replaced Akter.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kanti Boral and police super Syed Nurul Islam were transferred after the gruesome murders of seven people, including Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker.

Tangail DC M Anisur Rahman and Narsingdi SP Dr Khandaker Mahid Uddin replaced Manoj and Nurul respectively.

Besides, three officials of Rapid Action Battalion-11 who were also withdrawn before they were sent on forced retirement.

Another reports adds, a Narayanganj court Thursday placed three people arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of seven people on a 10-day remand.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Monowara Begum passed the order when police produced them before her court.

Those who were remanded are Mintu, Tipu and Momina.

Earlier in the day, plain-clothes police arrested the trio from Kararchar village in Shibpur uapzila of Narsingdi around noon.

Police had earlier arrested 16 people from the house of city Awami League leader and Narayanganj City Corporation councillor Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the seven-murder case, during a three-hour drive Saturday.

Meanwhile, the state minister for home has said the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officers accused of being involved in the murder of seven people in Narayanganj will be arrested if there is enough evidence.

The army Wednesday forced three officers, accused of taking money to kill Nazrul Islam and six others, to retire. They were on deputation to RAB-11 in Narayanganj.

State Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told reporters Thursday an investigation was on and the three men would be arrested if there was enough indication of their involvement.
