34 cases, no deaths

Bangladesh has registered 34 cases of COVID-19 in a day, taking the overall tally of infections to 1,953,541, report agencies.

No new fatalities were reported in the 24-hour count, keeping the death toll from the disease unchanged at 29,131, according to the latest government data released on Wednesday.

As many as 5,380 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 0.63 per cent.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases, with 27 infections.

Another 357 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,903,117.

Globally the overall number of Covid cases is fast approaching 533 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.

According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 532,689,877 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,313,629 on Wednesday morning.

The US has recorded 85,901,797 cases so far and 1,031,613 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.

India's Covid-19 tally rose to 43,158,087 on Tuesday, as 2,338 new cases were registered in 24 hours, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.

Besides, 19 deaths from the pandemic were reported across the country since Monday morning, taking the total death toll to 524,630.

There are still 17,883 active Covid-19 cases in the country, with an increase of 185 active cases during the past 24 hours.

So far, 42,615,574 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals, of whom 2,134 were discharged in the past 24 hours.
