3m people to benefit from Haor Project

Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is implementing Haor Development Project (HILIP) as part of its Climate Adaptation and Livelihood Protection programme to benefit 3.0 million people in haor region of five districts.
This was disclosed at a workshop jointly organised by LGED and International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) at the LGED headquarters on Thursday.
Chaired by LGED Chief Engineer Shyama Prosad Adhikari, the workshop was attended by Senior Secretary of Local Government Division Monzur Hossain as the chief guest and IFAD Country Programme Officer Nicolas Syed as the special guest.
The chief engineer said Haor Development Project is among the LGED's 12 important projects planned under climate adaptation and livelihood protection to help people in haor areas cope with climate change.
The IFAD country programme officer also focused on endeavours made by the IFAD for development of the poor, particularly flood-affected people, saying that a large number of people will benefit after implementation of these programmes.  LGED officials in haor areas are participating in the workshop which will continue till Saturday.
