Bangladesh registered four fresh Covid-linked deaths with 2,183 new cases in 24 hours till Thursday morning amid an upward trend of Covid infections
The figures were zero and 2,243 on Wednesday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the latest daily counts, the total fatalities from corovirus reached 29,149 since the virus was detected first in the country in March 2020.
A total of 13,905 samples were tested against 13,782 samples were collected across the country during the last 24 hours until 8:0am on Thursday.
The Covid-19 test positivity rate also inched up to 15.70 per cent on the day from the previous day's 15.23 per cent, the DGHS data revealed.
A total of 290 more people recovered from the coronavirus disease in the country during the last 24-hour reporting time.
The rate of recovery from the coronavirus disease was reported at 96.64 per cent on the day.
On the other hand, the rate of fatalities from Covid-19 also remained static at 1.48 per cent.
According to the official data, the total Covid-19 cases have crossed 1.973 million in Bangladesh and more than 1.907 million of them had recovered from the deadly disease.
On the other hand, nearly 14.35 million samples were tested across the country since the virus was detected in the country.
UNB adds: Globally the overall number of Covid cases has now surpassed 551 million amid a rise in new infections in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 551,682,658 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,356,166 on Thursday morning.
The US has recorded 89,236,449 cases so far and 1,042,291 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
India reported 14,506 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, taking the total tally to 43,433,345, as per data released by the federal health ministry on Wednesday.
Besides, 30 deaths due to the pandemic since Tuesday morning took the total death toll to 525,077.
The daily positivity rate in the country stood at 3.35 percent, while the weekly positivity rate was 3.30 percent, as per the ministry.
