Four children died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the 24 hours ending at 8:00am on Sunday, raising concerns over the continuing outbreak despite an ongoing nationwide vaccination campaign.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest fatalities pushed the cumulative number of suspected measles-related deaths to 619 since March 15 this year.
The DGHS said none of the four deaths reported during the period had yet been laboratory-confirmed as measles cases. The total number of confirmed measles-related deaths remained unchanged at 93.
Health authorities recorded 941 new suspected measles cases and 116 newly confirmed infections during the reporting period.
Since March 15, the country has registered 99,207 suspected cases and 11,710 confirmed cases of measles.
