India's vaccinations hit 2.0b as global Covid cases top 567m

Four people died from Covid-19 and 900 new virus cases were reported in Bangladesh on Sunday.

The figures were comparatively lower than that of five and 1,007 respectively on Saturday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the latest daily counts, the total fatalities from Covid-19 reached 29,234 in the country since the virus was detected in the country in March 2020,

Some 8,091 samples were tested during the last 24 hours until 8:0am on Sunday while 8,158 samples were collected during the period.

However, the Covid-19 test positivity rate dropped slightly to 11.12 per cent on the day from the previous day's 13.70 per cent.

According to the DGHS, a total of 1,983 people recovered from the coronavirus disease in the country during the last 24-hour reporting time.

The rate of recovery was 96.42 per cent on the day, the DGHS figures revealed.

However, the rate of fatalities from coronavirus disease remained static at1.46 per cent on the day.

According to the official data, the total Covid-19 cases have exceeded 1.995 million in Bangladesh and nearly 1.922 million of them had recovered from the deadly disease.

More than 14.49 million samples have been tested across the country so far.

Meanwhile, reports from agencies added: The Indian government's COVID-19 vaccinations hit 2 billion on Sunday, with booster doses underway for all adults, as daily infections hit four-month high, official data showed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extolled the vaccination milestone, celebrating the world's largest and longest-running inoculation campaign, which began last year.

Health ministry data shows the COVID death toll at 525,709, with 49 deaths recorded overnight.

New cases rose 20,528 over the past 24 hours, the highest since Feb 20, according to data compiled by Reuters.

The country of 1.35 billion people has lifted most COVID-related restrictions, and international travel has recovered robustly.

Globally the overall number of Covid cases has crossed 567 million amid a rise in new infections in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 567,275,561 and the death toll reached 6,387,063 Sunday morning.

The US has recorded 91,250,392 cases so far and 1,048,822 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.
