BAGERHAT, June 30 (UNB): Some 40 fishermen went missing as 14 trawlers capsized in the Bay since Friday noon until early Saturday amid inclement weather.
Sources said the 14 trawlers with 155 fishermen were overturned during the period by squalls triggered by a deep monsoon depression that crossed the coast into India Friday noon.
Of them, 115 fishermen were rescued or swam ashore while the others could not yet be found.
Coast Guards are searching in the Bay for the missing fishermen. They also gave first aid to 10 injured fishermen.
Members of the Coast Guard Mongla (West Zone) recovered seven trawlers from Kochikhali, Badamtola, Narkelbaria and Dimer Char adjacent to Bagerhat district Saturday morning.
Kazi Nazrul Islam of the Coast Guard West Zone said, "Search for the missing men is going on."
