COX'S BAZAR, Jan 11: More than 400 new Rohingya refugees entered Bangladesh through different border points of Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar in three days, refugee related sources said.
Very recently Myanmar army claimed that the Rohingya rebel group 'ARSA' attacked their force in Rakhine state. After this attack Myanmar military members started persecution anew in the Rohingyas village. To save life from Myanmar forces the Rohingya Muslims again started fleeing to Bangladesh crossing the Naf river.
More than 400 Rohingyas entered Shahporir Dwip, Sabrang Mog Para, Jalia Para, Naya Para and Haria Khali points of Teknaf, said Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jahid Hossain Siddique. Earlier on Sunday about 137 Rohingyas entered Bangladesh through the Gholarchar point.
Nearly 678,000 Rohingya refugees have so far fled to Bangladesh amid persecution in Rakhine state since August 25 of last year, Rohingya Refugee Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) office sources said.
Newly-arrived Rohingya Ali Ahmed (60) told reporters that he arrived in the Sabrang village of Teknaf on Tuesday evening crossing the Naf river along with his 19 family members. 'Fear of mass killing by Myanmar military compelled us to leave our homeland', Ahmed said.
While the number of daily arrivals has dropped significantly since the height of the influx, many of those now reaching Bangladesh say they faced some challenges, which delayed their escape.
