45 more contestants regain candidacies on eighth day of hearings

The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday approved 45 more appeals on the eighth day of hearings on challenges against returning officers' decisions on the scrutiny of nomination papers for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

A total of 112 review appeal applications were taken up for hearing during the day. Of the appeals allowed, 43 were against the rejection of nomination papers, while two were against the acceptance of nomination papers.

The commission rejected 37 appeals. Among them, 13 appeals were filed against the rejection of nomination papers, while 24 were against the acceptance of nomination papers.

During the hearings, nine appeal applications were withdrawn and two appellants remained absent. The EC kept 19 appeal applications pending.

The commission will hear all remaining appeals today (Sunday), the last day of hearings.

The hearings will begin at 10:00 am at the auditorium of the EC Headquarters in the city's Agargaon.
