Experts are warning that Bangladesh would see another major spike in Covid-19 cases unless the precautionary hygienic rules are followed here.

In line with growing positive cases in India and other countries in the region, the number of infections continues climbing over the last several days that concerned healthcare professionals.

They also called upon the people to get their booster dose as quickly as possible to avert dire consequences that the virus could cause.

The infection rate was hovering below 1 per cent for more than three months that gave some sorts of respite to the people from the deadly viral disease which already took away some 29131 valuable lives.

But from the last week, the positivity rate keeps soaring and it reached 6.27 per cent on Friday, according to the official data.

However, no new fatalities were registered in the 24-hour count.

When contacted, Professor Nazrul Islam, member of the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19, expressed his concern over sudden rise in the number of positive cases.

"Yes, the upward trend in infections indicates that another wave started to begin," he said.

He said the latest spread of the infection requires to be controlled with further intensifying the vaccination activities.

"Around 25 million people already got their boosting dose. We need to bring another 80 million people under the boosting dose very quickly. If we can do so, we will probably be able to protect people from being death even in the growing infection rate," he added.

Health scholar Dr Benzir Ahmed urged the people to properly wear mask as the latest rise of infections suggest that the country is going to face the fourth wave of the pandemic.

"We should not take it lightly. We need to be more cautious and responsible," he added.
