54 businessmen to get CIP status

The government has selected 54 leading businessmen who will have the status of 'Commercially Important Person (CIP)' for their contribution to creating employment and the country's economic growth.

The selected businessmen will be formally awarded CIP (Industry) 2013 status on February 11 at a function at BIAM Auditorium in the capital. The CIPs will enjoy a number of facilities for one year.

Earlier the Ministry of Industries announced the CIPs' names through an official circular, dated January 28.

The 54 CIPs have been selected under seven categories - ex-officio, heavy industry, medium industry, small industry, micro industry, and service industry.

A total of 11 people have been selected in ex-officio category, 21 in heavy industry, 10 in medium industry, five in small industry, one each in micro industry and cottage industry, and five in service industry.

CIPs under ex-officio category are: president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) A K Azad, president of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) Jahangir Alamin, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters

Association (BGMEA) Md Atiqul Islam, president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) A K M Salim Osman, president of Bangladesh Employers Federation (BEF) Tapan Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Jute Mills Association (BJMA) Nazmul Huq, president of Women Entrepreneur Association of Bangladesh (WEAB) Nasrin Fatema Awal, former president of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Md Sabur Khan, president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Mahbubul Alam, and president of National Association of Small and Cottage Industries (NASCIB) Mirza Nurul Goni Shovon.

CIPs selected under heavy industry category are: chairman of ACI Formulation Ltd M Anis Ud Dowla, managing director (MD) of Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd Rupali Chowdhury, chairman of Runner Automobiles Hafizur Rahman Khan, MD of BRB Cables Industries Ltd Md Parvez Rahman, MD of Abdul Monem Ltd Abdul Monem, MD of ACI Limited Dr Arif Dowla, MD of Western Marine Shipyard Md Shakhawat Hossain, chairman of BSRM Steels Ltd Alihussain Akberali, MD of Zaber and Zubair Fabrics Abdus Samad Md Rafiqul Islam.

The list also includes MD of Pahartali Textile and Hosiery Mills Mirza Salman Ispahani, MD of  Unilever Bangladesh  Khandaker Kamran Bakr, MD of Badsha Textiles Md Badsha Mia, MD of Viyellatex  K M Rezaul Hasnat, MD of Fariha Knit Tex Md Asadul Islam, MD of Jalal Ahmed Spinning Mills Md Shahjahan, MD of Mir Ceramic Mir Nasir Hossain, and MD of MRS Industries  Md Shamsur Rahman, director of Viyellatex Spinning Kaniz Fatema Zerin, MD of Super Refinery Salim Ahmed, chairman of Shah Fatehullah Textile Mills Selim Ahmed, and chairman of Aftab Bahumukhi Farms Manjurul Islam.

CIPs under medium industry category are: MD of Oeko Tex Abdus Sobhan, MD of BRB Polymar Md Majibur Rahman, director of Igloo Foods A S M Mainuddin Monem, MD of Basumati Distribution Z M Golam Nabi, chairman of Royal Green Products Abdul Haque, MD of National Agricare Import and Export K S M Mustafizur Rahman, MD of Alam Soap Factory Md Shariful Alam, MD of Baly Yarn Dying Md Masud Zaman, MD of Mosharraf Spinning Mills Md Mosharraf Hossain, and MD of Winson Auto Oil Mills Md Khairul Anam.

CIPs under small industry category are: MD of Kiam Metal Industries Md Mizbar Rahman, MD of F B Footwear Ltd Aniruddha Kumar Roy, MD of RMM Leather Industries Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin, MD of Onnesha Styles U M Ashek, and Owner of Shova Enterprize Sayed Ahmmed Kiron.

MD of Fu-Wang Foods Ltd Arif Ahmed Chowdhury has been selected CIP under micro industry category, while owner of Jononi Weaving Factory Rafiqul Islam has been selected under cottage industry category.

CIPs under service industry category are: chairman of M M Ispahani Ltd Mirza Ali Behrouze Ispahani, chairman of Dhaka Regency Hotel and Resort Kabir Reza, owner director (nominated) of Mir Akhter Hossain Ltd Sohela Hossain, MD of Civil Engineers Ltd Md Atikur Rahman, and MD of Building for Future Tanvirul Hoque Probal.

The CIPs will enjoy preference in booking seats in public transports for business tours. They will also enjoy the facilities of VIP Lounge-2 at airports during their travel.

Besides, Ministry of Foreign Affairs will send letters of introduction to embassies and high commissions in Dhaka, so that the CIPs can easily get visas.
