As over a half of the population would be living in the urban areas in few decades, experts at a high-profile meeting suggested that an effective and appropriate policy should be farmed for planned, balanced and sustainable urbanisation, reports BSS.
The meeting noted that among South East Asian countries, Bangladesh saw the faster urbanisation in the past 50 years, and with this rate of urbanisation the country would have 55 per cent of its total population in urban areas in 2051. Currently, 30 per cent of the total population live in cities and towns.
Bangladesh Urban Forum (BUF) in association with UNDP organised the meeting in the city to have discussion on the issue under the context of the 7th Five -Year Plan.
