60,000 pending cases disposed of within six months: CJ

About 60,000 pending cases under the High Court and the Appellate Divisions have been disposed of during last six months, the Chief Justice said Wednesday, reports UNB. The Chief Justice (CJ) of Bangladesh, Justice ABM Khairul Haque and also the chairman of Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC), disclosed it while submitting the Commission's Annual Report-2010 to President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban. The CJ apprised the President that there were 0.355 million pending cases in the Supreme Court and it has now been reduced to 0.295 million within six months. He said since its operation in 2007, the BJSC has already recommended 815 candidates for appointment as Assistant Judges and Judicial Magistrates. The CJ said necessary steps have been taken to recruit the Assistant Judges and the Judicial Magistrates to replenish the vacant posts in the subordinate courts. He sought the President's support to recruit the required manpower for the Commission to discharge the responsibilities smoothly in conducting the recruitment process. Members of the commission, its secretary as well as the secretaries to the President's office were present. The President assured them of his all-out support in this connection.
