The anti-graft watchdog has sought details about NID cards and passports of former revenue board member Matiur Rahman and his family members.
To this end, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has written letters to the Election Commission and the Department of Immigration and Passports.
The watchdog sent separate letters mentioning the names of Matiur, his two wives and five children, an ACC source told the FE.
On July 02, the ACC issued separate notices to Matiur, his two wives and two children to submit details about their assets.
Earlier on June 30, the ACC wrote to various government offices seeking documents regarding the assets held in the names of Matiur and his family members.
On June 23, the ACC formed a three-member team, led by deputy director Anwar Hossain, to investigate illegal wealth accumulation through corruption by Matiur.
The decision to conduct an enquiry was made by the Commission after an allegation was submitted against him to the ACC on June 04, according to the source.
On July 04, a Dhaka court ordered the attachment of assets belonging to this former official of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and his family.
The assets include Matiur's 114 decimals of land in Muladi upazila under Barisal and 522.52 decimals in Raipura upazila under Narsingdi.
His wife Laila Kaniz's 2,445-square feet flat at Bashundhara, their son Arnab's 275.85 decimals of land and daughter Ipshita's 6.56 decimals in Narsingdi are also parts of the order.
Other immovable properties include a flat in Dhanmondi and land and multi-storey buildings a Bashundhara.
Matiur is accused of amassing illegal wealth both domestically and internationally through corruption and money laundering, with assets worth billions of taka beyond his known income.
During the probe, it was discovered that Matiur and his family were attempting to transfer ownership of their immovable properties.
On June 24, Dhaka's Senior Special Judge Mohammad Jaglul Hossain issued a travel ban for Matiur, his wife Laila, who is the chairman of Raipura upazila, and their son Arnab.
On June 30, Laila later applied to lift the ban. The court will hear her application on July 28.
Matiur, also former president of the Customs, Excise, and VAT Appellate Tribunal, has faced corruption allegations four times over the past two decades.
The ACC conducted separate probes into each allegation against him and he was exonerated every time. The official has now been moved to the Internal Resources Division.
It surfaced on social media and in the mass media that Matiur's son Ifat bought a goat worth Tk 1.5 million from Sadeeq Agro and cows worth Tk 7.0 million from various farms in Dhaka.
Ifat's branded watches, cars, luxurious lifestyle and the assets of Matiur and his family members, including resorts, shooting spots, bungalows, and land, both in their names and under aliases.
