The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday sued Hanif Enterprise owner Hanif Miah, who was sentenced to death in a case, over non-submission of wealth statement.
Mr Miah was convicted in the 'August 21 grenade attack case' and has been a fugitive for over a decade.
The commission in its investigation found evidence of around Tk 20 million accumulated by Mr Miah from unknown sources. The anti-graft agency asked Mr Miah to submit his wealth statement but he did not submit it, according to ACC sources.
As a consequence, ACC Deputy Director Abu Bakar Siddique filed a case against the businessman as per section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
However, the commission on August 24 last interrogated another owner of Hanif Enterprise Kafil Uddin, elder brother of Mr Miah, over illegal wealth accumulation.
Mr Miah and his wife Eva Hanif were also asked to appear before the commission but they did not.
