The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is likely to file first information reports (FIRs) against some corrupt suspects and submit charge sheets in a number of graft cases next Sunday, reports UNB.
"The ACC chairman is now in the UK to attend a conference and Commissioner Abul Hasan Manjur Mannan is also abroad for (medical) treatment. Two commissioners are required (to take decisions). After their return, hopefully there'll be some FIRs and charge sheets next Sunday," the ACC Secretary Mokhles-ur-Rahman told reporters at his office Wednesday afternoon.
Emphasising the importance of quality of work of the officers, he said if the quality of work at the levels of inquiry and investigating officers could be improved, there would be fewer mistakes. "For ensuring the quality, the Commission is not giving approval of filing FIRs for the sake of maintaining routine," he added.
Mokhles said the ACC sent an amendment proposal to the Cabinet Division Tuesday to allow an inquiry officer to remain the investigate officer. At present, an inquiry officer cannot be the investigating officer. "If approved, the work will be done more effectively," he said.
He said when the task of the ACC organogram would be finished by December, the ACC would bring in good officers on deputation.
The ACC secretary said two more employees of the Commission have resigned voluntarily. They are HM Rafiqul Islam, a court assistant at Patuakhali office and Kollol Chowdhury, a constable at Chittagong office.
He said that even after voluntary exit from the Commission, no one would be able to escape if his or her corruption is proved.
Mokhles referred to the ACC chairman's remarks made months ago that those who think that they are not capable to face the challenging job, they could leave the Commission. "Maybe people are going on voluntary retirement as part of the continuity of the chairman's remarks."
If the people intending to leave the ACC through voluntary retirement, he said, fresh and qualified people would be appointed as per the new organogram and that would be completed by December next.
Mokhles said the copy of each notice asking wealth statement is sent to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman to keep him informed.
