The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to launch a probe into the allegations of amassing illegal wealth by Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the Narayanganj seven-murder case.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the commission Thursday and an investigation officer would be appointed soon, officials of the anti-graft body said.
Mr Hossain, also a ward councillor of the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) now in hiding after the seven murders, is alleged to have amassed vast wealth through illegal means.
The ACC officials said the commission has already collected some documents including media reports on illegal wealth of Mr Hossain and he is also accused of laundering money to various countries.
Earlier, ACC Secretary M Faizur Rahman Chowdhury said the commission has started collecting information and documents to launch enquiry into the allegations of amassing wealth by Nur Hossain.
NCC panel mayor Nazrul Islam and four of his associates and lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and his driver were found dead. Their bodies were recovered from the River Sitalakkhya on April 30 and May 1.
On May 6, three RAB officials were sent into forced retirement after Nazrul's father-in-law Shahidul Islam alleged that some officials of RAB-11 had killed Nazrul and others in exchange for Tk 60 million from ward councillor Nur Hossain and his accomplices.
"We are collecting information and related documents about Nur Hossain and the former RAB members. After finding sufficient evidence, we will launch a probe against them," the ACC secretary told a press briefing at the commission's headquarters in the city.
