Eminent actor Khalil Ullah Khan Khalil passed away at around 11am on Sunday at the city's Square Hospital at the age of 81, reports BSS.
"Actor Khalil died of cardiac arrest today (Sunday)," a hospital official told the news agency.
Khalil Ullah, popularly known as 'Khalil', performed in many films including Sonar Kajol, Sangam, Jongli Phool, Bini Sutar Mala, Sonar Cheye Dami, Megher Pore Megh and Modhumoti. He was also a popular actor in television drama and theatre.
Khalil earned appreciation for his role in the drama serial 'Sangsaptak' on BTV.
In recognition of his contribution to the country's film industry, he was awarded the lifetime achievement award at the National Film Award in 2012.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu condoled the death in separate messages and expressed their sympathy to the bereaved families.
UNB adds: In a message President Abdul Hamid said the people would always remember him as he depicted the well and woes of the common people through his acting.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of eminent actor and National Film Award winner. She said Khalil Ullah Khan had won the hearts of millions of film-lovers of the country through his natural acting talent.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, expressing her profound shock, said the skilled and virtuous artiste would remain at hearts of the people forever for his unique acting.
