ADB team to talk energy sector policy with govt

A high powered delegation from the Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB) was due to arrive in the capital Tuesday night for talks on energy sector policy with the government.
The two-member ADB team, led by ADB's Director General of South Asia Department Kunio Senga, will hold talks with finance and planning adviser AB Mirza Azizul Islam and energy and power adviser Tapan Chowdhury on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
The ADB delegation might also hold discussions with Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed and other policy makers before leaving on October 6 next.
During its visit the ADB delegation will review its energy and power related projects in Bangladesh and also discuss the government's future plan in these particular sectors.
The ADB might expand its existing cooperation in the country's energy and power sector following discussion with the government, said sources.
ADB's Deputy Director General for Private Sector Operations Department S Chander is also a member of the delegation.
The ADB is involved in development projects in Bangladesh and around 43 per cent of its finance is in energy and power sector.
