Sales of advance train tickets will begin on July 29 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, said Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Tuesday.
The tickets will be sold from five places-- Kamalapur, Airport, Banani and Tejgaon railway stations and Fulbaria-- in the city, the minister said while speaking at a press conference held at Rail Bhaban.
However, half of the advance train tickets will be sold online. The authority of Bangladesh Railway has already taken all necessary measures to this effect.
Sales of advance tickets will start at 9:00 am on July 29 while that of app-based online tickets at 6:00 am.
Advance tickets for August 07, 08, 09, 10 and 11 are scheduled to be sold on July 29, 30 and 31 and August 01 and 02 respectively.
Sales of return tickets will start on August 05 and continue till August 09. Each passenger can buy maximum four tickets.
At the press briefing, the minister also said 2,000 level crossings out of 3,200 across the country are unauthorized. These level crossings were set up without approval from the railway ministry, he said, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard after holding a meeting with government agencies concerned.
In reply to a question, the minister said action had already been taken against some railway officials responsible for a recent train accident.
Besides, all necessary measures had been taken to ensure safe and hassle-free journey for homebound passengers ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
