Advent of spring celebrated

February 14, 2008 00:00:00

Pahela Falgun, the first day of the spring, was celebrated in the capital and elsewhere across the country Wednesday amidst fanfare and expressing love for Nature, reports UNB.
Parks, campuses and places of entertainment were dominated by the yellow and spring yellow colours as the most young girls welcomed the king of seasons, attired in yellow and spring yellow sarees or salwar-kamiz with headbands of flowers. Young boys were also seen mostly in yellow panjabis.
It was a heyday for flower sellers in the capital as there was a huge demand for marigold, dahlia, palash and shimul flowers.
Dhaka University campus and Bangla Academy compound virtually looked like gardens.
The youngsters walked through the campus making funs or singing songs.
The road from Shahbagh to High Court Mazar was overflowing with bangles, hand-fans and earthen pots as vendors occupied the footpath.
The National `Basanta Utsab Udjapon Committee' formally inaugurated the Pahela Falgun celebration through a cultural programme at the Bakultala premises of the Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University, at 7:20am.
