AL-BNP clash kills Jubo League man

NARAYANGANJ, Nov 30 (UNB): A Jubo League activist was hacked to death and 10 people were injured in a clash between the activists of Awami Leauge and BNP in Araihazar upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Amjad Hossain Mollah, 45.
Local sources said the activists of AL and BNP in the area had been at loggerheads, as a poster of Nazrul Islam Azad, international affairs secretary of Jubo Dal central committee, was torn off by some Awami League activists a few days back.
Following the incident, the BNP activists also tore off a festoon of local AL leader Nazrul Islam Babu, also an MP.
As a sequel, the two rival groups, equipped with firearms and sharp weapons engaged in a series of clashes at Duptar Bazar on Sunday morning.
At one point, Jubo League activist Amjad Hossain Mollah was severely stabbed by the opponents.
Critically injured Amjad was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died of his wounds.
Meanwhile, 10 people belonging to both AL and BNP were severely injured in the clashes.
Later, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Additional police personnel were deployed in the area, said officer-in-charge of Araihazar Police Station Alamgir Hossain.
Vehicular traffic on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway was cut off due to the clash between 11 am and 12 am.
