Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque won the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election with 1,54,825 votes, according to unofficial results, report agencies.
Khulna City Corporation elections Returning Officer Md Alauddin announced the results after counting of votes ended at all 289 polling centres.
Meanwhile, in Barishal City Corporation (BCC) polls Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Abul Khair Abdullah won with 87,808 votes, according to unofficial results.
In Khulna, Khaleque's nearest rival, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Md Abdul Awal got 60,064 votes
According to unofficial results, Jatiya Party's Shafiqul Islam Madhu (plough) bagged 18,074 votes, Independent candidate SM Shafiqur Rahman (watch) got 17,218 and Jaker Party's SM Sabbir Hossain (rose) got 6,096 votes.
Out of 5,35,529 voters eligible for voting in elections across Khulna, 2,56,433 casted their ballots at 1,732 booths of 289 polling stations in Khulna City Corporation elections.
Official said 45% voters cast their ballots Monday.
In Barishal, Mufti Syed Mohammad Fayzul Karim of Islami Andolan Bangladesh bagged 33828 votes
Meanwhile, the Islami Andolan Bangladesh has rejected the results of Barishal and Khulna city polls over alleged irregularities and assault on a candidate.
Along with that the party announced that they would boycott the Rajshahi and Sylhet city elections, slated to be held on 21 June.
After the voting closed on Monday, the party's chief Mufti Rezaul Karim, aka Charmonai Peer, said: "Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Mufti Syed Fayjul Karim was attacked twice and injured Monday. We condemn the incident."
Rezaul alleged that the Awami League took control of the voting booths to carry out irregularities.
"We reject the results of the two city polls to protest such severe misconduct. We are also withdrawing our candidates from Sylhet and Rajshahi and demanding the resignation of the chief election officer at the same time."
He said Islami Andolan supporters were already carrying out protests around the country. Protests will also be held after the Jummah prayers on Friday.
The party's mayoral candidate in Barishal, Fayjul Karim, was present at the briefing.
According to him, around 30-40 "supporters of the ruling party" launched an unprovoked attack, leaving him with a bloody nose when he went to visit a centre.
Besides the attack, no major incident was reported during voting through electronic machines.
Earlier report ads: Voters were seen standing in long queues at polling centres to cast their votes using electronic voting machines (EVMs) after the voting began at 8 am. It continued till 4 pm without any break.
However, some minor alleged irregularities were reported in the both elections causing injuries to some people.
In Barishal, several supporters of mayoral candidates backed by Awami League (AL) and Islami Andolon Bangladesh were injured in a clash over entering a polling centre.
