The ruling Awami League has chosen Chittagong metropolitan unit General Secretary AJM Nasir Uddin to run for mayor in the upcoming Chittagong city corporation polls, reports bdnews24.com.
The decision was taken at a meeting Friday chaired by party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka, party's Presidium Member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said. "AJM Nasir has been unanimously chosen as the mayoral candidate," the public works minister said. "Our leader [Hasina] has asked everyone to work with him," he added. BNP-backed Monjur Alam defeated Awami League-backed ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury in the last election by nearly 95,000 votes in 2010.
