All types of anarchy to be uprooted: IGP

RANGPUR, Jan 16 (BSS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque said on Friday all sorts of anarchy and terrorism should be uprooted involving the common people to restore peace and tranquillity in the society.
He said the anti-Liberation Jamaat-Shibir forces became active in Mithapukur and nearby Polashbari and Gobindaganj areas for carrying out terrorist activities.
The anti-Liberation forces held lives and properties of the common people hostage in the name of 'movement' and such a situation would not be allowed to continue and the root of terrorists would be uprooted, he said.
The IGP was addressing a view-exchange meeting on law and order arranged for preventing terrorism and subversive activities at the Mithapukur Girls' High School ground in Mithapukur upazila as chief guest.
While addressing the meeting as special guest, Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed explained global definition of terrorism and said a fewer number of terrorists waged a war against the state, people and society.
"No concession will be made in establishing peace in the society through rooting out terrorism. And all necessary steps will be taken to achieve the goal," he cautioned.
The IGP and the RAB DG came to Mithapukur following the arson attack that left five persons burnt alive and ten others critically injured when a petrol bomb was hurled on a passenger bus at the Batason point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway on Wednesday.
On arrival here from Dhaka by helicopter, the IGP handed over a cheque for Tk 50,000 to the family of the deceased -- Rahim Badsha and his mother Rahima -- and another cheque for Tk 10,000 to the wife of critically burnt Anwar Hossain.
With Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad in the chair, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht and Acting Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Humayun Kabir also addressed the meeting as special guests.
General Secretary of district Awami League (AL) Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, Mithapukur upazila AL President Mozammel Haque Mintu Mian, Upazila Chairman Zakir Hossain Sarker, Principals Nazrul Islam and Tofazzal Hossain and Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Shahidar Rahman also spoke.
