Amu orders legal notice to errant tanners

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu gave an order on Thursday to issue a legal notice to tannery owners in the capital's Hazaribagh for relocating their industrial units within the stipulated time, reports BSS.

At the same time the minister gave an order to the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) to disburse the money of compensation from next week to those tannery owners who have already started construction work at the Savar leather industrial city.

The minister gave the orders while presiding over a meeting attended by heads of organisations and project directors under the industries ministry at the ministry's conference room in the city.

At the meeting it was revealed that the industries ministry had got an allocation of Tk 15.23 billion (1,523.36 crore) for implementation of 28 projects during the fiscal year 2014-15. So far, over Tk 2.73 billion has been distributed in favour of the projects.

It was also revealed that 91.38 per cent of construction work on the Fenchuganj Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory was completed and it would be completed ahead of schedule.

The minister gave directives to the project officials to work sincerely for completion of all projects within the stipulated timeframe. Industries Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan attended the meeting.
