APNIC keen to help BD in IPv6 implementation

The Asia-Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC) is keen to provide technical assistance to Bangladesh in routing Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) to IPv6, an updated version of internet protocol (IP) with a larger address size, to improve the internet services.
APNIC Director General Paul Wilson expressed his interest in the implementation of IPv6 during a courtesy call on Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Must-afa Jabbar, at the latter's office at the secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday, according to a press statement.
During the meeting, views were exchanged between them on the need for expansion of broadband internet connectivity, the benefits of building a digital connectivity highway in the country along with improved customer service.
Highlighting the progress of digital connectivity in the country, Mustafa Jabbar told Paul Wilson that the implementation of IPv6 is progressing according to the plan.
The minister also said network security is essential for digital security. The government is determined to implement IPv6 for digital security.
Director General of APNIC, Paul Wilson, termed the progress of Bangladesh's digital connectivity as one of the greatest achievements of the region.
He also assured the minister of providing support of proper training for the network service providers, including network engineers.
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the latest version of Internet Protocol. IPv6 was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to deal with the long-anticipated problem of IPv4 address exhaustion.
In December 1998, IPv6 became a Draft Standard for the IETF, which subsequently ratified it as an Internet Standard on July 14 in 2017.
