FE Report
All applicants vying to win the US Diversity Visa (DV) lottery will be able to check their entry status electronically for the first time.
In the past, only the successful entrants used to receive notifications by mail while the unsuccessful entrants were left uninformed.
All the applications must be submitted online available on the website - www.dvlottery.state.gov, as no written application will be accepted, according to the filing procedure.
The Application Season for DV 2010 will open at 10 p.m. BDT on October 2 and will close at 09 p.m. BDT on December 1.
"On being selected, DV lottery entrants must appear at the US Embassy for an interview to demonstrate that they are qualified to receive the visa," Consular Chief of the US Embassy in Dhaka Laurie Trost informed while speaking at a press conference at National Press Club in the city Thursday.
Receiving a "winner" letter does not itself qualify an entrant for a visa," Trost clarified.
"Applicants must show that they have the required education or work experience," she said.
Explaining the educational qualifications required to be eligible for a DV visa; Laurie Trost said, "Entrants must have an education board-issued HSC or a two-year technical board certificate or a first-year passing certificate from a government-registered university"
Previously it has been reported that the Madrasah students will require additional general degree to be eligible for the DV lottery.
"Although the majority of Bangladesh's DV visa entrants qualify based on their education, others can also qualify based on their occupations if they can demonstrate two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring two years of training or experience to perform," she informed
Cautioning against 'unscrupulous' agents defrauding visa applicants; Trost recommended that the entrants complete the applications forms on their own.
"The US Embassy does not use agents for the processing of Diversity Visas. Anyone asking for money and claiming a relationship with the Embassy to facilitate visa issuance is not telling the truth," she said.
Detailed instruction for DV 2010 will soon be available in both Bengali and English on the websites www.dvlottery.state.gov and dhaka.usembassy.gov.
Each year, 50,000 Diversity visas are made available worldwide. A total of 17,000 Bangladeshis have so far been awarded the US DV lottery visa since 2000.
