Arson, blasts mark 66th day of \\\'blockade\\\'

Sixty-sixth consecutive day of the nationwide non-stop blockade coupled with hartal, enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance, concluded on Thursday amid arson attacks, blasts and vandalism of vehicles in the capital and elsewhere of the country.
Bullet-hit body of a Jubo Dal leader was recovered from Chatkhil Upazila under Noakhali in the morning after 12 hours of his abduction, police said.
Talking to the FE, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chatkhil Police Station Nasim Uddin said they recovered the body of Israfil Alam from Deliya Bazar area. He was the president of Jubo Dal Bakshipur union unit under Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.       
Family members said a group of masked assailants kidnapped him from home at gunpoint on Wednesday evening. Since then he remained missing.
Reports of detention by the law-enforcement agencies during the blockade also came from various districts, including Jessore, Pabna, Chittagong, Meherpur, Satkhira and Manikganj.
Earlier on the day, 'blockaders' torched a passenger bus, parked adjacent to a fuel-station in the capital's Mugda area.
Police said the bus of Turag Poribahan, plying on Gazipur-Gulistan Road and used to carry apparel workers, was set ablaze at about 7:00 am on Thursday. However, there was no one inside the vehicle during the arson attack.
On information, two units of fire-fighters rushed to the spot and doused the flames with the help of law-enforcers.
A group of pro-blockade activists blasted few crude bombs at Banglamotor Intersection in the capital before vandalising several vehicles at noon, triggering panic among people crossing the area.
Incident of explosions was also recorded on the premises of CMM (Chief Metropolitan Magistrate) court in the afternoon. But none was hurt in the blasts.
Meanwhile, a union land office was torched in Jhalakathi, gutting most of the records in the early hours of the day.
Police said Ponabalia Union Land Office was set on fire at around 3:30 am. Locals managed to put out the blaze within an hour.
However, no major incident of violence was reported from the country till submission of the report at around 8.00 pm.
