Avoid AC use in winter, offices under three ministries asked

FE REPORT | October 29, 2024 00:00:00

The interim government directed three ministries to reduce the consumption of electricity by 25 per cent as part of an austerity measure and sought cooperation from all concerned.

It also directed to avoid usage of air conditioners as much as possible in all the offices, organisations and companies under the Ministries of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) and Road Transport and Bridges and Railways starting November, 2024 to February, 2025 as winter approaches.

Advisers' office of the Road Transport and Bridges in a statement released on Monday hoped that these austerity measures will help to increase electricity supplies for irrigation, fertiliser production and industrial sector.

The new directive aims at mitigating ongoing shortage of energy and electricity supply, according to the statement.

A similar directive on reducing consumption of electricity by 25 per cent was also issued a couple of years back.
