Baby milk prices increase in local market significantly

The prices of different brands of baby milk increased significantly in the local market during the last one month forcing the people to count an extra cost in addition to their monthly family expenditure.

According to the traders in the city's retail markets, the price of DANO Vitakids increased by Tk 85 per tin (400gm) during the last three months and it is now being sold at Tk 295 against the previous rate of Tk 210.

Lactozen, another widely-consumed baby milk brand, is being sold at Tk 360-Tk 370 per tin (400gm) that was priced at Tk 340 per tin (400gm) last month.

'Prices of all baby milk brands have increased by Tk 20 to Tk 50 per tin (400gm) in the retail markets as suppliers have raised the rates of their products,' said Nakul Shaha, a trader in the city's Shantinagar Bazar.

'We had to increase the prices of our baby food items, because the prices of liquid milk have gone up in the international markets also,' said Aminul Islam, the brand manager of DANO, Sunday.

In the international markets, sources said, the price of liquid milk increased by almost 100-110 per cent per tonne and it is now being sold at $ 4,500-$ 3,500.

According to retailers, a 400gm tin of the Cerelac brand milk is now being sold at Tk 270-Tk 280 against the previous rate of Tk 250-Tk 260. Cerelac fruit and wheat are being sold at Tk 270-280 per tin of 400gm.

A tin of 400gm Biomil is being sold at Tk 370 against its previous rate of Tk 380.

Retailers are selling Baby Care and My Boy at Tk 360 per tin of 400gm each.

A one-kg packet of NIDO is now being sold at Tk 785 although the price was Tk 650-Tk 660 about a month ago. Retailers are selling a 400gm tin of NIDO at Tk 285 against Tk 260 of a month ago.
