Bachchu skips ACC grilling for ‘illness’

FE Report | May 08, 2018 00:00:00

Citing illness, BASIC Bank Limited former chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bachchu skipped anti-graft investigators' interrogation on Monday regarding a loan scam involving Tk 45 billion.

Officials at Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) said he was supposed to be grilled for the fifth time by its investigation officials. But the prime accused person in the loan forgery case did not appear on the day, and submitted an application seeking two months' time on the ground of his illness.

"We've received an application from him (Bachchu) on Monday. In response, the commission deferred the quizzing till May 15," ACC secretary Dr. Md. Shamsul Arefin told the reporters.

On December 17 last, Bachchu did the same thing and sought one month's time on the same ground. But the commission turned down the appeal, and quizzed him on January 8 for the third time.

Bachchu was first quizzed on December 4. On March 8, he was quizzed for the fourth time.

In response to a query about DIG Mizanur Rahman's apathy to submit some important documents required by the inquiry officials, the ACC secretary said DIG Mizan did not submit those papers, which is a kind of non-cooperation. "ACC will file a case against him under Section 19 (3) under ACC Act, if he does the same thing frequently," he added.
