The Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) finalised procedures relating to import of 75,000 tonnes of fertiliser to boost its supply during the Boro season.
Of the 75,000 tonnes of fertiliser, the state-owned BADC has finalised import of 50,000 tonnes of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) and 25,000 tonnes of Muriate of Potash (MoP).
Mustafizur Rahman, General Manager (purchase) of the BADC told the FE Monday that it had completed all arrangements for the purchase of 75,000 tonnes of the fertiliser.
Besides, it will open a tender today (Wednesday) for import of a further 25,000 tonnes of MoP.
"We are expecting to receive the fertiliser at the Chittagong Port in December as we have successfully completed bidding procedures and the remaining works like opening of the letter of credit (L/C) against the import will be done by the first week of December," he added.
He also said the remaining 25,000 tonnes of MoP will be available sometime in January next if quotations are acceptable in the Wednesday's bid.
However, the Multi Link and the M/S Bulk Trading companies have been selected for the imports of 50,000 tonnes of TSP and 25,000 tonnes of MoP respectively by the BADC.
Multi Link quoted C&F (cost and freight) prices for the TSP at US$ 527 each tonne while the M/S Bulk Trading quoted C&F price at $ 420 a tonne of the MoP, BADC sources added.
The sources further added that the TSP would be procured from Tunisia and the MoP would be purchased from Ukrain.
The BADC imported first time in 2006 after 14 years of lapse a total of 125000 tonnes of chemical manure.
Apart from this it also procured 100000 tonnes of fertiliser locally to boost the same in the local markets in the last year.
