Bangladesh fifth largest internet user in Asia

Bangladesh has been ranked the fifth largest internet using country in Asia with 48 per cent users, according to Internet World Stats.

The number of internet users in Bangladesh reached more than 80 million in December 2017, which was only 0.1 million in 2000, showed its recent data.

China ranked top with 772 million users, about 55 per cent of its population, followed by India, Indonesia and Japan.

The report said China has grown immensely by providing internet from 22 million users in 2000.

In India, internet penetration in the past 10 years has jumped from 5.0 million to 462 million in 2017, which is 34 per cent of its total population.

In Indonesia, the number of internet users grew from 2.0 million in 2000 to 143 million in 2017, which is 54 per cent of its population.

Japan has 118 million internet users, which is 93 per cent of its population.

The number jumped from around 50 million in 2000 to 118 million in 2017.

The Philippines and Vietnam, with 67 million and 64 million people respectively, have access to internet.

Thailand has made internet available to 57 million people in the last one decade.

Pakistan has access to internet of 44 million, which is 22 per cent of its total population.

Nepal and Myanmar have made internet available to 16 million, which is 55 per cent, and to 18 million people, which is 33 per cent respectively, in 2017.
