Bangladesh sending technical interns to Japan


Bangladesh has so far sent about 600 technical interns to Japan while 25 more will also go to the East Asian country soon.
State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Shofiqur Rahman Chowdhury distributed smart cards and certificates to the Japan-bound 25 interns at a programme at the Bangladesh-German Technical Training Centre in Dhaka on Thursday.
It was informed in the event that so far 584 technical interns went to Japan without migration cost through Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET).
After successful completion of a three-year internship, the interns can get job as skilled workers in Japanese companies for five years.
And those who can complete that five years' period successfully will be able to continue their job as skilled workers for the rest part of their life.
The expatriates' welfare state minister said that for the sustainable development of Bangladesh's labour market abroad, technical skills of the workers must be enhanced.
"Our technical training centres are able to play a special role in developing skilled workers," the state minister said, hoping that the technical interns going to Japan will bring reputation for Bangladesh.
"We hope you will stand by the people of the country in good times and bad times. You are going to Japan without migration cost, so we hope you will send remittance through legal channels," he added.
He also assured the interns that they would be awarded based on their performance in sending remittance.
Expatriates' welfare ministry additional secretary Md Khairul Alam and BMET director general Saleh Ahmed Mujaffor, among others, were present at the programme.
