In a twist of fate, a band of robbers had to leave suddenly after they had broken into a branch of the state-owned bank in Moulavibazar Monday, reports bdnews24.com.
Apparently, the ill-equipped robbers failed to crack the vault.
The branch is located at Srimangal Upazila's Habiganj Road.
Branch Manager Ashish Deb Roy claimed the robbers "could not make off with anything".
CCTV cameras recorded parts of the incident.
Roy said he had first learnt of the attempted heist from the bank's cleaner Pranesh Debnath around 9:30am.
"I found the grill of an east-side window tampered and the cash counter drawers were open and the documents scattered," he recounted.
"All the CCTV cameras were also turned around."
According to him, the CCTV footage shows four masked men entering the bank through the window at 5:20am. They were going through the cash counter drawers.
"They were probably looking for the vault's keys. Then they took the hammer and screw-driver, used to bundle money, to break open the vault."
But nothing was seen further as the robbers had turned around the CCTV cameras, Roy said but added another CCTV camera outside captured the four leaving at 6:32am.
He said the robbers climbed the roof of shop beside the building and broke into the bank on the first floor.
The CCTV footage showed Ansar member Kabir Mia, who was in charge of security during the night, leaving the bank around 6:45am.
"After my overnight duty, I went to sleep at the north-west corner of the bank. I left after the cleaner came in. I did not hear anything," Mia told bdnews24.com.
