Banking hours to remain same until May 23

FE REPORT | May 17, 2021 00:00:00

The central bank has asked all the scheduled banks to run operations on a limited scale during the government announced ongoing lockdown until May 23, officials said.

Banking transaction period will remain unchanged from 10:00am to 2:00 pm on each working day, according to a notification, issued by the Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Sunday.

Besides, the banks have been asked to provide services on a limited scale from May 17 by keeping open their branches from 10 am to 3:30 pm, it added.

The BB's latest instruction came after the government extended lockdown measures by another week in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19.

"We've issued the directive in line with the government's notification on extending the ongoing lockdown till May 23," a BB senior official told the FE while replying to a query.

On the other hand, country's non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) have also been instructed to operate on a limited scale till May 23 except national and weekly holidays in compliance with the health rules.

The concerned branches of NBFIs will open from 10 am to 2:00 pm to provide emergency financial services such as receiving loan instalments and delivering cash deposits on maturity, according to another notification, issued by the central bank, on the same day.

However, a total of two branches, one in Dhaka and one outside Dhaka, will be allowed to keep open, it added.
