Customers stood in long queues at bank counters for cash withdrawals on Thursday, the last working day before the start of the Eid-ul-Azha holiday.

Bank officials reported a 30 per cent increase in transactions on Thursday compared to regular working days, reports UNB.

Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals for Muslims, will be celebrated on Monday.

Hasanur Rahman, a senior official of Sonali Bank, Motijheel Branch, stated that there has been a rush of customers in banks primarily for withdrawing money.

Customers were observed waiting in long queues at branches of different banks, with officials struggling to provide services under the pressure of cash withdrawals.

Crowd of customers was seen in banks across various areas of the capital, including Motijheel, Dilkusha, Paltan, Mogbazar, Farmgate, and Gulshan. In addition to receiving new money, lines for depositing various invoices, deposits, and other service bills have also been noticed.

Cash counter officers of the banks had to deal with high demand due to the pressure of additional customers.

Kazi Jahangir Alam, manager of Islami Bank Motijheel Branch, mentioned that there is always a rush on the last working day before Eid.

People withdraw money to celebrate Eid in villages, buy sacrificial animals, and collect cash to pay salaries and allowances of workers in factories and industrial establishments.
