Banks facilitate govt transactions on holiday

All commercial banks remained open Saturday, the last working day of the current fiscal, to facilitate government transactions, including revenue collection.
Clearing house and related departments of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) also functioned to facilitate the banking activities across the country.
"We have worked to adjust various government accounts on the last working day of the fiscal," a senior official of the central bank told the FE Saturday.
The banks, however, will remain open today (Sunday), the first working day of the new fiscal, but no transactions will be made.
"The bank will remain open Sunday, but there will be no transaction," a senior official of a private commercial bank told the FE.
