CHATTOGRAM, Sep 2: After a long-drawn legal battle, the battery-run three-wheeler rickshaws and auto-bikes have started plying the city roads today.
Bangladesh Battery-run Auto-Rickshaw, Auto Bike Service and Bangladesh Awami Battery-run Auto-Rickshaw and Auto Bike Federation have announced it.
Leaders of the organisation said the battery-run rickshaws and auto-bikes will be plying in eight zones covering all 41 wards of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) following an order (No. 10993) issued by the High Court.
The leaders said the two organisations are representing as many as five million rickshaws who are paying revenue worth Tk 10 billion a year to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) in terms of 15 per cent value added tax (VAT), taxes, Tk 4000 each for number plates and Tk 1000 as renewal fee.
Managing Director of Bangladesh Battery-run Auto-rickshaw Service Abul Kalam said the court issued the order allowing the plying of the battery run rickshaws on August 14 in a writ filed against the government.
