BB seeks info about First Solutions from HC

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has sent a letter to the Bangladesh High Commission in England seeking details of the London based First Solution Money Transfer Limited.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Salehuddin Ahmed said this to a group of journalists at the scholarship awarding ceremony of the Islami Bank Foundation at the National Press Club Tuesday.
Earlier, BB has asked eight local commercial banks, which had drawing arrangements with the First Solution Money Transfer Ltd., to submit latest transaction profile reports of the company immediately.
The money transfer company has closed down all its branches in England after misappropriating a large sum of money remitted by Bangladeshis living in Britain to their relatives in Bangladesh.
Earlier, BB governor distributed scholarship among the winners under the Islami Bank Foundation's (IBF) "Education Scholarship Project" at the press club.
At the award giving ceremony Salehuddin said at least 60 million people out of 150 million are still under poverty line in the country although the ratio of poverty reduction maintained at 1.8 per cent during 2000-05 period.
"We have advanced a lot in banking sector reforms since 1990," BB governor added.
He stressed the need for transforming the huge population into manpower resources for economic advancement.
In 2007, Islami Bank Foundation has awarded education scholarship to 350 students under three categories including HSC, Bachelor Degree and poor students.
Executive director of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) M Fariduddin Ahmed, chairman of the board of directors of the IBBL Abu Naser Mohammad Abduz Zaher and chairman of the Islami Bank Foundation Shah Abdul Hannan among others were present at the award giving ceremony.
