FE Report | November 09, 2014 00:00:00

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) in cooperation with the World Bank will develop a digital poverty database, accommodating necessary information of around 34 families across the country.

A pilot project styled "Development of the Bangladesh Poverty Database" to collect house and family information was launched at Narsingdi Circuit House auditorium Saturday.

State Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Bir Protik, formally inaugurated the project. The database is the first of its kind in Bangladesh.

The minister underscored the need for right information for the country's development. He said this initiative will help the government prepare its roadmap properly.

He said once the database is prepared, all the government and non-government agencies would be able to reach the services quickly and properly to the targeted sections. Besides, this database also can be utilised for election purposes.

Upon the successful completion of the five-day pilot project, the authorities are planning to begin main project by March next year.
