BCL activists lay siege to Ctg container depot

CHITTAGONG, Sep 18: Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Juba League lay siege to a private container depot on Friday for five hours from 7.00 am compelling the authorities to suspend cargo handling activities.

Local police said the activists lay siege to the BM Container Depot at Shitalpur of Sitakunda until 12.00 noon. No truck with cargoes or workers was allowed to enter the depot during the time. As a result, the cargo handling remained stopped.

Sub Inspector of the Sitakunda police station said the local BCL leaders wanted the job of a contractor at the depot. The management assured them of giving a part of the work but later hesitated.

CEO of the BM Container Depot Brigadier General (retired) Ziaul Haider said the BCL and Juba League activists claimed money but the authorities regretted. So, they hampered work at the depot.

Police said the management sat with the leaders of the BCL at around 12.00 noon following which the activists withdrew the siege.
