RAWALPINDI, Sept 3 (AFP): Bangladesh celebrated a historic first-ever Test series win over Pakistan and a 2-0 clean sweep with a tense six-wicket victory in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

Shakib Al Hasan hit the winning boundary 25 minutes before tea on the fifth and final day of the second Test to spark jubilation in the away dressing room.

A handful of Bangladesh supporters waving the nation's flag were also there to see their country win only a third away series in 33 attempts.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus called national cricket team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto over phone to congratulate him and the team for their historic Test series win against Pakistan.

"Heartiest congratulations on behalf of the government and myself. The whole nation is proud of you," the Chief Adviser told Shanto moments after Bangladesh completed a six-wicket victory in the Second Test in Rawalpindi to complete a 2-0 clean sweep victory in the two Test series.

According to the Chief Adviser's Press Wing, Professor Yunus also said the Bangladesh team would be accorded a reception on return home.

On the other hand, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and the trade body of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI), among others, extended heartiest congratulations to the national cricket team of Bangladesh for its historic Test series win against Pakistan.
