Bangladesh's interim government has ruled out taking any immediate decision on deploying forces to Gaza, stressing that such a sensitive and far-reaching move must be left to the next elected government.
The position reflects Dhaka's cautious stance as international discussions continue on the formation of a possible multinational stabilisation force.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said the issue remains at a preliminary stage globally and that Bangladesh would not commit to any deployment unless strict conditions are met.
He underscored that the current administration is focused only on preparatory groundwork to ensure policy continuity.
He made the remarks when asked whether the interim government, which is nearing the end of its tenure, should take a decision on such a sensitive issue.
Mr Hossain said Bangladesh did not expect any resolution "within the next three weeks", emphasising that the matter extended far beyond Dhaka's control.
"No decision has been taken," he said. "If the necessary environment is not created, we will not go."
Outlining three key conditions for any potential participation, he stressed that Bangladeshi forces would not be deployed in a combat role and would operate only where a recognised authority exists with whom communication is possible. "We will not go there to fight," he said. "And if there is no authority we can speak to or engage with, then there is no question of going."
The adviser's remarks come as international deliberations continue over the composition and mandate of a possible multinational force for Gaza, a process involving a large number of countries and one that is unlikely to be concluded quickly.
